Web application developer, network administrator and business manager Matt Harris has been developing IT infrastructures and web services within the education sector for the last 6 years. Within the last 4 years he has been advising senior academic leaders at local and regional level in best practices for financial management, personnel workflow and network administration as well as the delivery of web standards across the curriculum. He works with the lead professionals in the local and regional community to recommend approaches and decide priorities for incorporating eLearning across schools and facilitating a personalised learning space for all learners.

As part of the Senior Leadership Team, I have responsibility for the strategic development of the school's support services ranging from building fabric to administrative staffing, and IT infrastructure including core business applications. I also have responsibility for all business aspects of the school and for implementing the government strategy for eLearning and eAssessment. Along with the IT subject teachers, I have developed aspects of the learning objectives and strategies for delivering them. Examples include:

Responsible for the design, implementation and development of the school's public website, online learning centre and internal services. Technologies used include XHTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, ASP.net (1 and 2), MySQL, Microsoft SQL, LDAP, XML and Public Service APIs including Google, Yahoo, Twitter and Ma.gnolia. The group defined a requirements specification for the selection of an Online Learning Platform provider and formed purchasing recommendations to the steering committee.

SIMS is one of the information management systems schools in the UK use to store all operational, staff and pupil level data. The User Forum represents all 71 secondary schools in Hampshire and is responsible for developing and managing software change requests, as well as internal marketing and education campaigns about features and upgrade preparation. The forum also has membership of the Capita Education Services software consultancy groups who meet to discuss the next software module versions.
Schools across Hampshire lost confidence in the SIMS software when it changed from dBase to SQL and .Net however the User Forum has restored this confidence and is now marketing the importance of the product in the day to day running of schools.
- 2006 - present Matt Harris Secondary Schools Representative Hampshire County Council EdICT; Capita Management Group, Parkway, 94-96 Wickham Road, Fareham, Hampshire, PO16 7JL, UK This is Hampshire's strategic and technical management group for the SIMS product. It is responsible for translating the problems experienced by users into meaningful change requests for the developers. The group also translates the developer advice and feedback into documentation relevant to the users.
